Little treasures of the forest

Special and Valuable autumn products, rich in nourishment and flavor. They have taste and consistency and on the table can be eaten alone, roasted but also boiled. Or elaborate in a thousand exquisite desserts, soups and main courses.

For a long time, the chestnuts have been the basic food for many families that used to live in the mountains here in Italy. In the past the fruits that fell on the ground were picked by hand while beating with long sticks was carried out to take the curls left over on the branches.

During the year the dried chestnuts were brought to the mills to be ground and transformed into flour.

This particular and delicious autumn fruit, is a complete food, and especially fit for who practice sport, because it's rich in minerals and potassium. But let's not forget that it's also high in calories.

In my hometown, Udine, Friuli Venezia-Giulia Region (Italy) every fall season, in October we have the "Chestnuts festival", in Italian called "Festa delle Castagne", where you can find caldarroste "roasted chestnuts", Ribolla Wine, Live music, folk music, and more goodies. A magical journey between tradition and gastronomy.

The Chestnuts are the typical autumn fruits

of the gorgeous italian woods!!!
